The season for the Volley League ended a few days ago with Olympiacos winning the championship with a 3-0 victory over PAOK’s Pylaia, making it 3-1 in the finals series.
As was normal, the top player of the Greek league was the Slovenian centre-back, Alec Pagenk after a relevant vote carried out among the coaches of the ten teams of the league receiving five votes.
In fact, the “red and whites” had their due since the Italian passer of Dragan Travica got two votes, the international winger Raphael Koumentakis, the libero Dimitris Tziavras and the German winger Salvador Hidalgo got one vote each.
Thus Pagenk became the 12th player in the history of Olympiakos since 1999 to win this award.
In his statements, Alec Pagenk said:
“I honestly didn’t expect it. It is rare that a central player is named MVP. I thank the coaches for this honor. I dedicate the title to the fans of Olympiakos. Also to my coach, my teammates, the Olympiakos staff and my family who supported me this difficult year. The most important thing is that we won the championship and the European title. The title of MVP could be won by any of my teammates. I fight for every ball, in every phase and I love Olympiakos and Greece. I’m fine here, that’s why I stayed for a second year.”
When asked about whether he will stay for a third season at Olympiakos, he answered: “I can’t say anything. There is no formal agreement. This will be announced by the management of Olympiakos”
