Katerina Stefanidi starts the summer season with high expectations and a big goal of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. The “silver” European champion in Munich on the pole is still not in the desired condition and for this reason in the Diamond League in Doha next Friday she will use shorter poles, while competing with 14 strides.
“It’s still early. So far I have done ten jumps with 14 strides. Mitch didn’t want me to push myself and go in full force. Also, in Doha, the air is usually bad,” said the 33-year-old champion who left on Wednesday for the capital of Qatar.
“I think that at the Women Gala of Filothei (17/5), in my second race of the season, I will be ready to compete with 16 strides. In June there are many matches, among them the Rome Diamond League on June 2nd and the Paris one on June 9th. In the next period, we are expected to come up with the competition program”, said the “golden” Olympic champion of Rio, who will also be present at the meeting that will take place in Kourtane.
The level of competition in Doha will be high, since the top players of the competition will be present there. Among them are Katie Nazot, Sandy Morris, Holly Bradshaw and Tina Suttey.
