The solution of… Agrinio seems to qualify – at this moment – as the venue for the final of the Greek Cup. According to the latest information and information carried by the “Press” of the city, agriniara.gr, the stadium of Panaitolikos seems to be the choice reached by the EPO after a long search with no results in all the previous days.
In fact, the local organizations are positive to host the game, while the local Police are afraid of the presence of fans and at first the reactions are negative.
The article in detail…
After the reports of the last few days that wanted the EPO to examine, among other things, the Panaitolikos stadium for the holding of the PAOK – AEK Hellenic Cup final, on the morning of Friday May 5th the first attack was made on PAE Panaitolikos.
According to the report of agriniara.gr, the major shareholder of PAE Panaitolikos, Fotis Kostoulas, received a “blow” from the Federation in the context of the investigation into the possibility of holding the final in Agrinio, specifically at the Panaitolikos stadium.
The same information states that Fotis Kostoulas is positive about the possibility, something that he also mentioned publicly in his statements on a radio station.
From then on, the stadium belongs to Erasitechnis Panaitolikos and PAE rents it. This means that neither the Municipality of Agrinio (it is also positive about the possibility of holding the final in Agrinio) nor the PAE Panaitolikos is responsible for giving the OK. Everything will therefore depend on the “ok” of the President of Amateur Panaitolikos, Panos Stergios, which is considered rather a given since PAE and the Municipality are not negative to the possibility of holding in Agrinio.
It is noted that in the first phase the Local Police are negative about holding the final of the Greek Cup in Agrinio and here serious questions arise as to whether the Panaitolikos stadium could accommodate any number of fans of the two teams.
It is a field, not a stadium (i.e. without a track, i.e. with short distances between the stands and the playing field) that does not have high railings (the only exception is the section of Gate 4 that hosts the organized ones and the section of Gate 3 which accommodates the approximately 300 guests) and in general is not the most suitable for hosting a large number of fans of the “big 4” teams.
Also, the access to the Panaitolikos stadium goes through the urban fabric of the city and the friends of the two finalists will pass through it to enter the venue and watch the match.
The Police are therefore reasonably concerned about the possibility of causing incidents in the event that even 1,000 PAOK fans are found in such a small stadium (with a capacity of approximately 6,500 seats) alongside even another 1,000 AEK fans.
In fact, it is argued that the Local Police faces a significant problem every time even 300 “big 4” team friends are accommodated in the specially designed area in the small stand (Gate 3), let alone if it is required to accommodate 2,000 fans, from two different teams from the greats of Greek football.
Beyond that, it should be noted that the EPO and the Police are solely responsible for the conditions under which the Cup final could be held in Agrinio. That is, the EPO will ask the Police under what conditions it wants to be held (with fans, without, with 2,000, with 5,000, etc.) and it will depend on the Police whether they will give the “green light” or not. However, the first information indicates that the Police are negative about the possibility of holding the Greek Cup with friends of the two teams in Agrinio.
