“I imagine that those who now see this image should have no doubt that the road is finally being built, because you remember that up until a year and a half ago we still had some doubts. I personally dealt with three roads. With him, with E65, the northern part and with BOAK. These three roads, if there was no involvement at the highest level to be able to secure both funding and approvals from the Competition Commission, we would still be where we were three years ago. In other words, let’s talk about a plan on paper”, stressed, among others, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the Mayor of Amaliadas, Yannis Lyperis to point out that “it’s the first time that Ilia has so many collected works at the same time, it’s the first time. This is unprecedented.”
The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, George Karagiannis, among other things, noted that “from the first days we took over the political governance of the place, we committed ourselves that the project of the new highway Patras – Pyrgos will become a reality. Back then, many doubted us, but today, everyone sees that our commitments are being implemented. The work is “running” as we had the opportunity to see with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, whose interest is very great. After all, thanks to his own personal interventions, this important highway entered the realm of implementation.”

The play, which is scheduled to be completed in 2025, will stimulate the development potential of Ilia and the wider Peloponnese, while benefiting the coastal and commercial connections with the Ionian Islands.
The construction of the Patras – Pyrgos motorway came to a standstill in the period 2015-2019, when the previous single tender was canceled and the project was fragmented into eight individual sections despite the objections of the European Commission, which jeopardized the provision of EU funds.
Subsequently, only five contracts were tendered and there were serious delays in the implementation of the fragmented project, with progress varying between 0.11% and 2% in four parts, even though about a third of the contractual time had elapsed.
The problems were resolved following negotiations by the current government and the Prime Minister with the European Commission, resulting in the reinstatement of the motorway in the Olympia Road concession contract. In this way, the financial burden of the State was reduced by 80 million euros compared to the cost of the eight contracts while the works are progressing according to schedule.
