A player of the third national team was arrested for dealing in counterfeit banknotes

The two young men, 21 and 22 years old from Athens, who were arrested on the afternoon of Sunday 7/5, were brought before the Prosecutor yesterday for circulating counterfeit 50 euro banknotes in various businesses throughout Volos.

The two perpetrators visited Volos for three days and were arrested in a catering business in the Eidonofolies area, where they tried to “spoil” such a counterfeit 50 euro, while they were subsequently recognized by three other affected business owners where they had managed to “market” the banknotes -monkey.

However, as the two young men admitted before the authorities, during their stay in the city they visited around 10 to 15 other businesses throughout Magnesia, putting counterfeit money into circulation.

After a police check, 1,450 euros in counterfeit 50-euro notes and the sum of 1,040 euros in genuine notes and coins were found in their possession and confiscated.

They stated that they obtained the counterfeit 50 euros from an unknown man from Senegal, buying them for a specific price each, while they claimed that the only place of the illegal transactions they carried out was Magnesia.

They are being prosecuted for a felony, while they themselves state that they are remorseful and characterize their act as reckless, as they were attracted by the easy profit that would solve some of their family problems.

It is the first time that the two youths have concerned the authorities, while their families were shocked after their arrest. These are people beyond suspicion who are involved in sports, with one young man participating in a football team of the 3rd national team.

The two arrested were brought before the investigator yesterday where they were given a deadline to apologize on Wednesday 10/5.
