Nikos Gavalas mentioned the importance of yesterday’s victory of Olympiakos over Panathinaikos in his post. The CSR director of the red and white PAE said that it is a victory – a response in an era dominated by doubt and suspicion.
The post of Nikos Gavalas states in detail…
“There are many and different reasons why in the history book of Olympiakos, there will be a special mention of this penultimate home performance of the season. Reasons why in another time and space, legends of our team’s history would stand and give credit, with a prolonged applause, to the current administrative leader and the footballers.
On May 8, 2023, Olympiacos was invited for the third time in its glorious history to play a match, which would decide which of Panathinaikos or AEK would win the championship. In the previous two, in 1960 and 1993, they were defeated at the old Karaiskakis Stadium by Panathinaikos and away from home by AEK respectively. What Olympiacos did not achieve then during the presidency of the legendary Giorgos Andrianopoulos and then Mr. Sokratis Kokkalis, it achieved during the days of Mr. Vangelis Marinakis.
This victory over Panathinaikos filled the millions of fans of our team around the world with pride. In an era where doubt and suspicion reign supreme, today’s Olympiacos reminded everyone how strong it remains. Even in a year where he was left out of the titles. As Giannis Antetokounmpo recently said, in sports there are good days and bad days. Sometimes you are successful, sometimes not. Sometimes it’s your turn and sometimes it’s not. This is sports.
Sports is also the possibility that Olympiacos offered this year to people with visual disabilities, to watch the home games thanks to the audio description service. “Boy, I’ve never seen red and white. Today, however, I realized how heavy our team’s shirt is. I want you to thank Mr. Marinakis that we can watch the Olympiakos matches.” Words of a blind fellow, as he was leaving Karaiskakis after the derby with Panathinaikos. We stopped together with the students of Panteion University who did the audio description and the blind fans who were at the stadium yesterday, to keep this moment forever in one photo.
A few meters further on, the son of Lazaros Laskaridis was leaving excitedly. Tasos Laskaridis came with his grandfather to Karaiskakis, to watch the derby from the seats of the press galleries where his father was sitting. “The soul of Lazarus was vindicated today,” Mr. Spyros told me with tears in his eyes shortly before the Stadium’s floodlights went out.
On the evening of May 8, 2023, Olympiacos was vindicated.”
