Vangelis Galatsopoulos announced changes to the Basket League format

by

We expect to have a new Basket League starting next season.

The president of ESAKE, Vangelis Galatsopoulos, during the press conference for the semifinals and finals of the Basket League, announced changes to the format of the event, so that it would become more competitive. At the same time, he referred to the television rights part of ESAKE, but also to the licensing committee, which will now consist of independent members.

What the president of ESAKE said in detail:

“It is planned to change the format of the Basket League in order to increase the number of matches and competitive games. The league season will be extended, making the league more attractive for television, bringing increased revenue for teams, from tickets and sponsors. At the same time, we are proceeding with a change in the composition of the licensing committee, with the formation of an evaluation committee, which will consist of independent members with scientific training. We also plan to enter into a new long-term television rights agreement, so that the teams know what their income is, in the long run.”

“What we’re planning is to have a third round, so basically there won’t be 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 in the playoffs. There, they will play matches from “1” to “6” in double games and from “7” to “12” again in double games. Next we will go to the final. It’s something we’ve been talking about since last year. The final sentence will come now. In principle, all groups were positive. This will bring more games, more interest, both for television and for sponsors. There won’t be a big game difference, so I think it’s good for the league.”
