At the press conference for the semifinals and finals of the Basket League, he spoke about the goals of Olympiakos George Bartzokas.
The Greek coach emphasized that his team wants to close the year in the best way and with respect for everyone, while adding that the “red and white” team have reached 70 games this season. In addition, he noted that it will be a failure for the club if they do not win the championship, based on the image on the floor.
His statements in detail:
“We are a team that works consistently. Something that starts with management. We have stability. We won two titles that we do not underestimate. We want to complete our European run as well as possible. And then the championship. With respect to all. First against PAOK and then if we succeed against the next opponent. We have a different number of games than other teams. We reach 70. PAOK has less. The facts are different. We have tension, fatigue but this is our job. We will do the best for the team.”
As to whether it is failure to lose the title: “It will be a failure if we don’t win the league based on our image and home advantage. No friend of Olympiakos will take it kindly. There has been a lot of discussion about the failure and the success of Giannis Antetokounmpo. What counts is how far you reach your limits. But we live in the Balkans and if it ends up being this couple, it always has weight. If we get it, it won’t be celebrated any more, but if we lose it, it will make our friends sad.”
To change the format: “Will you allow me to measure it because we are in a huge burden. We coach the training sessions, the games are a necessary evil but the training sessions are what give us the opportunity to improve the team. If as you say it is, teams from 7-12 will continue to play something that matters. You are obviously the right people for the right decisions, we will follow them.”
On whether it is difficult to gather the players before Kaunas: “Based on what I saw in training it is very difficult. It’s a big event that coincidentally is very close this year. There is no time, there are many procedures to travel and prepare. At the same time we have just finished a series that pushed us competitively and mentally, but there are players who are used to doing that. I have seen some who are ready for training and some who are not, it has to do with experience. Those who have the experience are called to help others. We have a training session tomorrow and on Saturday we play PAOK, we expect competition at a high level”.
