Aim high for Jengo

by

After the experience of participating in the 2022 World Championships and gold in the javelin at the European Athletics Championships in Munich, Elina Jengo looks ready to handle the challenges she will face this summer season.

The U23 European Championship, the Diamond League meetings and the Budapest World Open Track and Field Championships are the main goals of Giorgos Botskariov’s athlete.

The year started very well at the Winter Throwing Cup and then came the 19-year-old star’s victory in Leiria at the European Throwing Cup with 63.65, which is currently the third best performance of the year in the world.

“The year started perfectly, while the preparation has also progressed very well. Our goal is for me to participate in a few good matches, through which I will claim the distinction in the top competitions”, stressed the Greek champion and added in view of the distinction at the World Championships next August that:

“I don’t want to say from now on how far I can go in the World Cup. Certainly the goals are high. However, last year too I was expecting something better in Oregon and it didn’t come. In any case, the year has many demands and must be properly managed.

Last year I finished the race in mid-August and this year I should be in good shape by mid-September for the Diamond League final.”

Jengo will play her next match in Papaflessia on May 31st and then travel to Paris for her first Diamond League appearance on June 9th.

“The competitive goals are specific. After Kalamata I will start the Diamond League and, from there, I want the distinction in the European Teams in Silesia and, of course, in the European U23 Championship in Finland”.

Jengo is expected to make a pass from next weekend’s Interclub Championship.
