Marinakis: “I am categorically opposed to a decision incompatible with the announcement – Perigelos the EPO”

by

Vangelis Marinakis announced his opposition to everything that is happening regarding the decision on the venue of the final of the Novibet Cup in a letter to the Executive Committee of the EPO which is meeting to make a decision on the stadium where the game will be played.

The president of the Super League points out his opposition to any decision made that is not compatible with the announcement of the Cup, while – at the same time – strongly criticizes the EPO.

Vangelis Marinakis states in detail in his letter:

Gentlemen,

Regarding the no. 50 meeting of the Executive Committee of the EPO I would like to bring to your attention and to the attention of the other EU/EPO Members the following:

The Greek Cup Final is introduced once again as a topic for discussion before the EU. We have now lost count of how many meetings of the Executive Committee have been held for this particular race, while just last Friday 5 May 2023 there was (?? and a -circumstance- a meeting of the Committee of Extraordinary Matters based on a recommendation of the Organizing Committee the content of which was contrary to the Proclamation of the Cup regarding the holding of the Final in Agrinio !!!

The result of this meeting was never made known (!!!) and I personally was not informed if there was the slightest statement from the other Members of the E.E.Th. on the subject. It is absolutely unacceptable and contrary to every concept of good administration and practice to convene meetings of Federation Bodies with decisive authority – such as the EETH – and to have no information either on the progress of the discussion or on its results, as if the Bodies of the Federation to be the business of various idlers to spend their time in the coffee shop.

It is unprecedented that while the Cup Final is the most important match organized by the EPO and has been known as an obligation since the start of the season, we have arrived today only a few days before its (expected) holding still discussing where, how and when it will be held , and a Committee of the Federation which must have settled the matter months ago is recommending the violation of the Proclamation.

As for the topic of discussion, the Proclamation of the Cup has specific provisions regarding the conduct of the Final which have been known for months and care should have been taken to ensure all the necessary terms and conditions for the conduct of the Final such as the Proclamation requires. Inaccuracy is not a “force majeure” or an unforeseeable condition – on the contrary, it seems to be the norm in your case.

Nor certainly is the observance of the Proclamation left to the consent or consent of the teams involved in the conduct of a match, whoever it may be and much more a Cup Final.

Personally, I am strongly opposed to any decision that will not be compatible with the Proclamation of the Cup: that is, any decision to hold the Final at a stadium other than the Panthessal Stadium or at a stadium of a foreign Federation and I reserve the right to take any legal action in the event of a decision which is contrary to the provisions of the notice.

I point out that the Announcement is an Organizational Regulation and the amendment of the EPO’s organizational regulation within the period is prohibited under penalty of disqualification of anyone who participates in making this decision in accordance with the provisions of the C.A.P.

Finally, I can only emphasize that your unimaginable backbiting, unprecedented incompetence and criminal frivolity have turned the EPO into a laughing stock both of the Greek Municipalities and Police Departments and of the foreign Federations to which you have belonged. The results of the complete depreciation and trivialization of the institution and the Final as commercial products will become visible in the immediate future with the absolute deterioration of the commercial value of the event, which you have already undermined with the unsurpassed organizational successes of the Finals of past years.

The time is not far when, just as you are begging for a stadium in Greece or abroad, you will also be begging for channels to broadcast the Greek Cup. For all this financial damage that with your choices and the absolute incompetence of management you are causing to EPO we reserve the right to exercise all our legal rights.
