The assessment of this year’s season of Asteras Tripoli was made by the vice-president of the team, Dimitris Borovilosspeaking to arcadia sports.

Taking stock of this year, is there anything you’re holding on to in the team?

What or what were the mistakes that led the team down this path?
“We gave a blank check to the wrong person. We were fooled by the 6th that took out PAS Ioannina. Going back to the summer, we would probably make the same move again but we wouldn’t let Heraklis Metaxas do whatever he wanted. When we decided to end our cooperation with him, the damage that had been done was already too great and that’s why the choice of Akis Manzio was also burned after that”.
Was it also a mistake on the part of the management that the coach was not changed during the break for the World Cup?
“There, yes, was the big mistake. Mr. Metaxas gave a big license to players who were already out of shape. And this is proven by the fact that this year we had over 40 muscle problems that the players took out. We had learned that every year there will be 5-6 muscle injuries. He had a coach on his staff with experience at the U17 level – and that man should manage a professional team.”
From there, how will the situation turn around? What moves are you planning to make this year?
“First of all, we will start with the matter of the coach. We must not make a mistake again this year and that is why we will be very careful. After the election we will have more to say on this matter, as the hon. Bakos and Kaymenakis so that we can discuss and put to the final straight the issue that is number one in a group.
Benito dissolved his partnership. A player from whom we expected a lot, but he could not provide solutions in goal. Tilika will also continue his career elsewhere. A quality player from Brazil, who scored three goals this year but generally didn’t help us in midfield.
Our team this year had no problem in defense. Defensively we did very well, our problem was in attack. We had one of the worst attacks in the league. And there you can see the work that was not done by the coach.
The same players plus Bertoglio and Bartolo we expected to do even better but we didn’t get our estimates. I remember that Rastavac, who has been characterized as a defensive coach, with almost the same players presented more attractive football. Even Sito, who is not close to the goal but gives assists, this year he didn’t do that either.”
What can we expect for next season?
“It will be a pivotal year because radical cuts will be made. Some players will leave. The owners of the team, Mr. Bakos and Kaimenakis will put their hands in their pockets, as they always do, in order to build a team that will play the football that all of Greece has learned. We will give opportunities to children from our Academy and we will make sure that foreign players come who will raise the quality of the team”.
