Tite summons the Brazilian team with Daniel Alves and without Neymar

Coach Tite called up the Brazilian team for the games against Ecuador and Paraguay, for the Qualifiers of the World Cup in Qatar.

The list announced by the coach this Thursday (13) has the return of the experienced right-back Daniel Alves, 38, now a Barcelona player. Another who recently switched clubs and gained a new chance was midfielder Philippe Coutinho, 29, on loan from Barcelona to Aston Villa.

The attack is full of youngsters like Vinicius Junior, 21, Rodrygo, 21, Antony, 21, and Raphinha, 25. Shirt 10 Neymar, 29, is recovering from an injury to his left ankle and should return to the pitch only around half of February.

As Brazilian football is still in pre-season, the selected squad is composed mostly of athletes who work in European football. Weverton (Palmeiras), Gabriel Barbosa and Everton Ribeiro (Flamengo) are the only Brazilian teams named by Tite.

The team, already qualified for the World Cup and for the time being undefeated in the Qualifiers, will face Ecuador in Quito, at 18:00 (Brasília time) on the 27th. in Belo Horizonte, at 9:30 pm.

In March, Brazil will play the last two duels of the tournament, against Chile and Bolivia. After that, the road to Qatar should have only friendly games, three between May and June, another two in September.

There is a fear that the national team will not be able to schedule games against the main teams in the world in the two friendlies windows – since the teams from Europe will be playing in the Nations League on those dates –, which would jeopardize the preparation for the World Cup.

Therefore, the team planned to play the last two games of the Qualifiers, in March, with an alternative team and try to score, in parallel, duels against major European teams (which were already classified for the Cup). According to the GE website, the idea was vetoed by FIFA.

The 2022 World Cup will take place exceptionally at the end of the year to escape the host country’s high summer temperatures – the hottest season in Qatar is recorded in the middle of the year, when the tournament is traditionally held.

The Cup will start on the 21st of November. The final is scheduled for December 18.
