Vezenkov: “No one said it would be easy”

Sasha Vezenkov commented on the difficulties faced by Olympiacos in the victory over Panathinaikos in the first final of the Basket League.

It’s only 1-0. Panathinaikos has a remarkable team and coach, they fight every game. No one said it would be easy.”

For gameplay: “Panathinaikos plays Fener’s defense. One on me, everywhere, all over the field. For the defender it is the easiest defense, because he has only one thing to look at. I have to work harder on the floor, find more spaces, but I don’t care about that, I care about the team winning. We are at 1-0, we know that in OAKA it will be very difficult and we must be ready, see what we did wrong and go into the match even more focused.”

Because in the beginning it had larger spaces that were later reduced: “It’s a lot, I won’t analyze all the game. We will do this with our coaches. At 61-48 we lost our concentration, we let Panathinaikos score easy baskets, they have shown that they don’t give up. Instead of finishing it off, we got them into the game, they got open shots, they got good options, we have to see what we did wrong defensively.

On whether the mistake was made in defense today: “For three quarters we scored 61 points. In the 4th quarter we were definitely not good, but for three quarters we played well on offense. From there, in defense we made some unjustified mistakes and we have to work on them.”
