Djokovic to Rudd: “If I’m knocked out early in a Grand Slam, you can win it”

by

Casper Rudd reached the source at this year’s Roland Garros, but there he was waiting for the formidable Novak Djokovic, who won his 23rd Grand Slam title and made history.

In his remarks after the final, the great Serbian jokingly wished the 24-year-old Norwegian to conquer any Grand Slam he himself does not get.

What Novak Djokovic said in detail:

For the tournament: “Thank you once again for such a beautiful atmosphere. I am very happy to be here in front of such a special audience. It’s no coincidence that I won my 23rd Grand Slam here. This is the most difficult tournament for me and I am proud to achieve this feat on this court.”

For Casper Rudd: “Kasper you are one of the best people on the tour. We all respect you and we all admire you, both in the competitive and in the part of your character. Everyone who is next to you deserves a lot of respect. I regret the result today, but you are one of the most consistent players and that speaks for itself. I wish you beat any other player but me. If I’m eliminated, earlier, in a Grand Slam you can win it.”

For his team: “I can’t find words to talk about you. You know how difficult I am and I admire your patience. Goran (his coach) thanks for…putting up with me, I’ve worn you out a lot these past weeks.”
