Heavy rainfall, which mainly affected areas of the west Thessalonikibut to a lesser extent the center of the city, occurred in the afternoon, as a result of which streets were flooded and the Fire Department to receive dozens of calls for pumping out water.

In more detail, as Fire Department officials pointed out to APE-MPE, the downpour was more intense in the area of ​​Efkarpia, as a result of which the service received 30 calls for pumping out water in a period of about one hour, from 18.50 to 20.00. Firefighters were called to the scene in ten incidents, but in eight it was determined that the water level was low and no intervention was required.

According to the Police, shortly before 19.00, the rainfall also caused a problem on the Thessaloniki ring road, at the height of Fruitfulness, where due to a large accumulation of water on the road surface it was difficult for vehicles to pass. However, the problem was not, according to the same sources, significant and did not last long. Problems still reportedly occurred in Pefka and Filiro, but also in Stavroupoli and Polichni. Rainfall is also occurring in other areas of Central Macedonia, but so far no major problems have occurred in any area, according to the Police.

The rains and sporadic storms are expected to make up the weather scene in the next few hours in the wider region of Central Macedonia. It is recalled that, according to the National Meteorological Service, the areas that will be affected by the bad weather today and tomorrow are Macedonia (including Thessaloniki), Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece (including Attica), Evia as well as central and northeastern Peloponnese.
