European U17: Gika claims the bronze medal

The second bronze medal in the U17 European Championship, which is being held in Tirana, is claimed by Greece. After the great success of Vassilis Papageorgiou, who climbed to the podium of the winners in the 55 kg of the Greco-Roman, on Thursday (15/6) it is the turn of Maria Louiza Ghika.

The 15-year-old Greek champion, who is the youngest of the tournament, will compete in the “small” final of 43 kg with the aim of winning the bronze medal. Ghika started her campaign with a 6-4 win over Romania’s Diana Iuminica Voiculescu and went on to face Jagmur Karabacak of Turkey in the semi-finals.

In an uneventful match, the young Greek showed herself to be highly competitive against her biggest rival and tried until the end for the victory that would give her the ticket to the semi-final. In the end, despite her best efforts, she suffered a 7-5 defeat, while until the last second she was in a position to claim the points that would give her the victory. Now, in the “small” final, she will fight with the Polish Nina Marianna Michrzak with the prize of a place on the podium.

From there, Georgia Hasambalioti at 57 kg lost to Maria Belyasova who comes from Russia and was eliminated. At 65 kg, Ioanna Makrydakis was defeated by Anastasia Komanava, who is also from Russia, while at 73 kg, Theodora Raphaelia Argyriou did not succeed against Diana Titova, who is from Russia.

In the Greco-Roman, Thanasis Tsinias played in the repechage of 45 kg where he lost 4-2 to the Georgian Tsamba Bolkvatze.

Loukia Karagianni in battle


On Thursday (15/6), on the second day of the European U17 for women, Loukia Karagianni will take a place in the gymnasium. The Greek champion was drawn directly to the round of 16 where she will face Eda Balazs from Hungary.

Greece is in 8th place in the Greco-Roman


The Hellenic-Roman U17 European Championship has concluded with Greece occupying 8th place with 25 points among 31 countries. In fact, 7th Poland also had 25 points. The first three were completed by Georgia with 125 points, Azerbaijan with 100 and Armenia with 70.

15 points were given by Vassilis-Raphael Papageorgiou with the bronze medal at 55 kg, 6 were given by Thanasis Efthymiadis, who was ranked 8th at 65 kg, while 4 was given by Thanasis Tsinias with the 9th place at 45 kg.

From there, Sokratis Konstantinidis ranked 10th at 60 kg and Dimitris Pappas took the same place at 92 kg. Lefteris Pappas was 16th at 80 kg and Arionas Kolitsopoulos 18th at 71 kg.
