Baldock: “If you want to qualify you have to win matches like tomorrow”

by

The… obligation to win the National tomorrow’s match against Ireland was highlighted by George Baldock in his statements at the press conference of the match.

The international full-back pointed out that if you want to qualify then games like Friday’s should only end with one result, victory.

His statements in detail.

-the importance of the match against Ireland:

“We have all played in high-pressure matches. You always want to win every game, whether it’s Gibraltar, Ireland or France. We make no distinction in our minds. After the draw they didn’t consider us favourites, and it makes sense. If you want to qualify, you have to win games like tomorrow.”

– the fact that he wears the jersey of Greece as an expatriate:

“Everyone knows how honored I am to compete with this great nation. My grandmother was Greek, unfortunately she is no longer alive, but she would have been very proud to see me playing with the country’s national team. I always feel proud when I wear the coat of arms.”

-his role in the team:

“The attack is nice for a full-back, but our first task is the defense. I want to be a player that the team can rely on. No player is above the team.”

-his Sheffield team-mate John Egan, who will be a rival:

“John Egan is a good friend of mine, he’s a fantastic leader and an amazing person. He is a big danger in the set phases, because he seems to have a magnet in the static phases, so we should pay special attention to him.”

-whether the players have the France game in mind:

“The most important game for us is the one in front of us. The coach doesn’t allow anyone to think like that. We all have the same mindset, otherwise we wouldn’t be in the team.”
