Following the Touching of the Flame of Hope Ceremony on Wednesday 7 June at the Zappeion, the Flame departed for Berlin to carry the message of an inclusive society at the Special Olympics World Summer Games Berlin 2023.
On Friday, June 9, Special Olympics Hellas organized a special event for the official presentation of the appearance of the Greek Mission, in which athletes who will participate in the Games wearing their uniforms took part.
The event was hosted at the headquarters of the Hellenic Cultural Foundation (Bodosaki House) by its President Mr. Nikos Koukis, who always remains close to Special Olympics Hellas. Speaking at the event, Mr. Koukis highlighted the vision of the Special Olympics and their contribution to the inclusion in society of people with mental disabilities.
For his part, the President of Special Olympics Hellas, Ambassador e.t., Mr. Dionysios Kodellas, after thanking Mr. Koukis for his kind hospitality, expressed his warm thanks to the Admiral company for its generous offer to sponsor the official appearance of the members of the numerous Greek Mission and generally praised its awareness in matters of inclusion and integration. Mr. Kodellas characteristically mentioned that the Special Olympics remains grateful to the Admiral company which willingly responded to our call for the offer of its particularly important sponsorship.
Afterwards, the General Manager of the Admiral company, Mr. Dimitris Panagakos, in his statement regarding the event, emphasized that “it is our responsibility to be next to all the athletes and in such an important event. Part of Admiral’s mission is the practical support of athletes and the fulfillment of their dreams, because the joys and thrills that sport provides should be for everyone.”
The event was presented by Mrs. Victoria Toussi, head of the Special Olympics Hellas Family Program, who referred to the institution of the Family Forum and the catalytic role it plays in supporting the family members of athletes with intellectual disabilities, by providing qualified scientists and experts in its field health.
