PAOK player is again Michalis Tsairelis. The 35-year-old center (2.08m.) has signed with Dikephalos of the North and is returning to the Thessaloniki team after nine years.
In his first statements after his announcement, the Greek forward said that he is excited about his return to Thessaloniki, while he commented on the difficult year and the great challenges ahead.
What he said in detail on the official website of PAOK:
“Several years have passed since I played for PAOK, a lot has changed, but there are also several people I know. It’s Vangelis, it’s the coach, a serious administration and an atmosphere that, as far as I know, remains excellent as it was then. And this is very important. I am glad to find Vangelis again. We know each other well, everyone knows who he is, I don’t need to say anything more. The coach and I worked together successfully in Larissa. I think we had an excellent partnership, we have a positive opinion of each other, I think my style fits the basketball that the coach wants. I hope we will have a successful collaboration this time as well.”
For the new season challenges: “The big year ahead of us is a challenge. I believe the league will be even more difficult, Europe and the Cup will be added, we have the Super Cup from early on. Each of us will have to give the maximum to succeed.”
For his previous tenure at PAOK: “I remember many things from my two years at PAOK. First of all the excellent climate. It is important that the players match each other. Their mentality plays a role and PAOK has managed to maintain this good atmosphere for many years and it is important. Of course, I also remember the way we managed in my second season, to take 3rd place in the small finals of the Playoffs”.
For what motivates him to continue: “Love for the sport is the biggest motivation an athlete can have to play basketball for many years. If you don’t love the sport and what you do, sooner or later you will deflate. If you love it, you stay. But you make terrible sacrifices and things that are not seen and the world does not know. Fans only see the game and the stats. But there are many more things, in the everyday life and routine of every athlete, which are also the things that keep him active and able to play for years.”
