Terpu will participate with a wild card in the Star Contender of Slovenia

by

Special honor and joy for Elizabeth Terpou. The Organizing Committee of the World Table Tennis Star Contender of Slovenia, which takes place next week in Ljubljana, decided and granted her a wild card for her participation.

The rewarded Star level opens are the top of the world federation, they are not open to all athletes and have specific conditions and a numerical limit of participation. The games at Hala Tivoli take place from 3 to 9 July.

The 23-year-old champion had declared to compete in the Slovenian Contender, but had to wait. After the organizers’ decision to give her a host wild card, she will have the opportunity to participate in a men’s-women’s Star category tournament for the first time.

Important also, that he will complete three strong tournaments in a row and will be able to draw useful conclusions. Within a week he took part in the European Games in Poland and the WTT Contender in Croatia, which is still ongoing in Zagreb. Apparently the Organizing Committee of Slovenia counted these participations and mainly the European Games for the granting of the free card.

The Slovenian Star Contender includes all individual events. In singles, there will be 48 direct qualifiers on the board of “64”. Up to 64 athletes will be in the qualifying rounds, including Terpou. On the 3rd and 4th of July the qualifiers are held. It should also be noted that Demosthenes Messinis was appointed WTT Event Supervisor in Ljubljana by the global confederation.

THE JUST CHAMPIONS OF THE EUROPEAN GAMES

France’s Felix Lebrun and Romania’s Bernadette Sox won the singles gold medal at the European Games, which continue for day 6 in Krakow, Poland. The young Lebrun (with the Asian grip on the racket) defeated the Portuguese Marcos Freitas in an exciting final with 4-3 sets (9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 4-11, 6-11, 11-2, 13 -11). Felix’s older brother, Alexis Lambrun (who eliminated Panagiotis Gionis in the ’32’) won the bronze medal. Without playing in the match for positions 3-4, in fact, as the Croatian Andre Gacina could not “come down” (Gacina is well known to Greek fans, as last year he played for Panathinaikos and this year for Olympiacos).

Sox had an equally strong decider against Monaco’s Yang Xiaoxin. Despite being behind 2-0 and 3-1 sets, he won 4-3 and celebrated this top distinction for the first time (4-11, 7-11, 11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 11 -9, 11-3). The bronze medal went to another top Romanian, Elizabeta Samara. The match for places 3-4 with Natalia Bayor from Poland also went to seven sets and the outcome was 11-9, 4-11, 13-11, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11 and 11- 7.
