Baltakos: “Every year on the 4th of July Greeks everywhere celebrate”

by

Tomorrow (04/07) marks 19 years since the… epic of Greece on the courts of Portugal! From that huge moment when his team Otto Rehagel defeated the hosts 1-0 in the final and won it Euro.

On the occasion of the 4th of July anniversary, its president EPO, Takis Baltakoswanted to send his own message through the federation’s website.

Baltakos’ message in detail:

On the occasion of the anniversary of the winning of the 2004 European Championship by the National Team, the president of the Hellenic Football Federation, Panagiotis Baltakos, addressed the following message.

“Every year the 4th of July 2004 makes us feel proud. The conquest of the 2004 European Football Championship by our National Team, apart from being one of the greatest successes of Greek sports and Greek football, is a special moment for all Hellenism.

Every year on the 4th of July Greeks everywhere celebrate.

Every year, however, the 4th of July reminds us of the weight of responsibility and debt of safeguarding the legacy of the 2004 achievement that we have and for which we work tirelessly. The signs of this work are already visible, since the Men’s National Team is back on the road to success. Both the promotion to the UEFA Nations League and the second chance to qualify for the finals of Euro 2024 it gives us, as well as its appearances in the qualifiers for the European Championship 2024, prove it. As the work done in the small national teams shows, as on July 4, 2023, a significant date for Greek football, our National Youth Team plays its first match in the final phase of the EURO U19.

Aware of the weight of the legacy of 2004, we know that we have a historical responsibility to do everything to preserve this legacy and pass it on to future generations as a legacy. It is a national debt and we see it as such and it inspires us as such.”
