“KAE Panathinaikos announces the return of Ioannis Papapetrou to our team for the next two years.
Ioannis Papapetrou was born on March 30, 1994 in Patras, he is 2.07m tall. and competes in the forward positions. He is the son of the veteran ace of Panathinaikos, Argyris Papapetrou and started his basketball career from the Elysian academies. At the age of 16 he made the transatlantic trip and completed the mandatory training levels at the Florida Air Academy.
In 2012, Papapetrou enrolled at the University of Texas and played in the College Championship with the Texas Longhorns. The following season he averaged 8.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 34 NCAA games.
In August 2013, Ioannis Papapetrou returned to Greece and signed a cooperation contract with Olympiakos. With the red and whites, he won two Greek championships (2015 and 2016) and an Intercontinental Cup (2013). In the 2017-18 season he averaged 6.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 21:57 minutes of participation per match in the Euroleague, while in the Greek league he averaged 8.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 20:27 minutes of participation per match.
In the summer of 2018, he signed a cooperation contract with Panathinaikos where he played until the summer of 2022, winning with him 3 Greek Championships (2019, 2020, 2021), 2 Cups (2019, 2021) and 1 Super Cup (2021).
In the 2021-2022 season with Panathinaikos he averaged 12 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the Eurolreague and 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in the Greek league.
On July 19, 2022, he signed with Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade with which he won the Adriatic League, having 7.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per match.
Ioannis Papapetrou has been a member of the National Teams since a very young age. He has competed in the 2009 and 2010 European U16 Championships, as well as the 2013 European U20 Championships, in which he averaged 15.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
Since 2016, he has been competing in the Men’s National Team, participating in the Pre-Olympic tournament in Turin. He also participated in the 2017 Eurobasket and the 2019 World Cup in China. He also competed in EuroBasket 2022, in which the National Team reached the quarterfinals.”
At his first statements after the return of Panathinaikos, Ioannis Papapetrou stated on the KAE website: “I am very happy to be back with my family. There is great excitement and huge motivation on my part. I don’t want to say much now, the rest will be discussed on the pitch.
