Cameroon: They ask Eto’o to resign as president of the federation

THE Samuel Eto’owho has been leading the Cameroon Federation since December 2021, has been criticized for some of his recent decisions.

Last week, the Union of Amateur Unions of Cameroon voted 11-1 in favor of Eto’o’s resignation from the leadership of the country’s Federation citing serious irregularities. More specifically, he said the 42-year-old, who played for many of Europe’s top clubs, should resign “if he still loves Cameroonian football, as he has always claimed”.

ACFAC called on Cameroon’s sports minister to intervene and raised the possibility that FIFA president Gianni Infantino could be asked to do the same.

Among its list of concerns, ACFAC said the decision to change the president’s term from four to seven years was illegal. He also highlighted the lack of publication of the new statutes approved last August.

There were also questions to be answered, he said, about Eto’o’s decision to take on an ambassadorial role for a sports betting company, which could be in breach of both FIFA and FekaFoot rules.
