The UEFA Champions League broadcast rights will remain with Warner Bros Discovery for a further three years. Team, the agency that sells UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) club tournaments around the world, informed Warner executives that the company was the winner of the tender held in March.

The following broadcasters also made proposals: Globo, SBT, ESPN and Paramount. To overcome competitors, Warner agreed to pay around US$ 100 million (R$ 479 million at current prices) for the games, the highest value among all proposals. The contract, from the 2024/2025 season, runs until 2027.

With the new agreements closed by Uefa for the Champions throughout Latin America, communication companies began to spend US$ 500 million (R$ 2.4 billion) only with rights to tournaments in Europe, including Premier League, La Liga, among others. others –historic amount for football in the Old Continent.

As found out by F5, the official announcement has not yet been made because of open TV. Under pressure from official sponsors who invest in the competition in Brazil, Team tries to put one match per round of the tournament on a broadcaster. SBT, which has been showing the event since 2021, fights behind the scenes to continue with the broadcast. The current contract ends at the end of the 2023/2024 season, which starts in August.

Warner, however, has already been advised that the open TV issue will not change its situation for pay-TV and streaming. It will continue as the exclusive holder of the tournament in Brazil in virtually all games, a position it has held since 2015, when it bought the event, which had been a flagship of Disney do Brasil since the 1990s.

As of 2024/2025, the Champions League will have 36 clubs. In the initial stage of the Champions, the participants will play ten times (five at home and five away) against different opponents in a system of consecutive points. UEFA has not yet detailed how these clashes will be defined.

At the end of the consecutive points phase, the eight best placed guarantee a direct vacancy in the round of 16 of the competition. The other eight clubs that complement the round of 16 will be the winners of knockout duels between teams that finished the 1st phase from 9th to 24th place. From then on, the round of 16 duels will follow the traditional format until the big decision in a single game.

wanted by F5Warner and Team declined to comment on the contract renewal.
