Another great performance from Alki Kynigaki who, as in the 10 km, finished in sixth place at 5km open sea in the World Championships in Fukuoka. THE Asterios Daldogianis was 30th (out of 63) with a time of 57:46.60.
The Hunter, fifth at the Tokyo Olympics, finished alongside Hungary’s David Betlem in 54:58.60, with the photo finish giving the latter fifth place. The two, as well as the third German Oliver Klemt in the 10 km, tried to stay close to the leading group, but from one point onward they failed. In the last two kilometers the German Florian Wellbrock and the Italians Gregorio Paltrinieri and Domenico Accerenza opened the gap, giving their own battle for the medals.
Kynigakis made an excellent effort for the second time in two days and now at the 2024 World Championships in Doha he will claim a place that will give him (in the 10 km included in the program) the Olympic ticket.
THE Wellbrock he did the double as after 10 km he became world champion and in 5 km. The Italians, who missed the podium and Olympic qualification in the 10 km, won two medals with Paltrinieri the silver and Atcerenza the bronze.
