by

Greece won seven medals on the first day of the Balkan championship, three of which were gold.

The gold medal in the pole vault was won by Helen Pollack with 4.40 m., which with this victory seems to have ensured the qualification to the World Championships in Budapest. Gnafakis and Frantzseskakis won gold medals in the morning. The athlete then failed to go beyond 4.50 meters. The silver medal went to Nicole Kyriakopoulou, who cleared 4.30m today and then was unable to clear 4.40m.

THE Yannis Nyfantopoulos won the bronze medal in the 100 m in 10.44, in a race that was held with great delay. The athlete in the qualifier had achieved 10.39. The winner in the 100 m was the Austrian Marcus Fuss with 10.40 and second was the Ukrainian Vasiliev also with 10.44.

The Men’s 4X100m team won the silver medal in 39.52. Oi sOtiris Garaganis, Yiannis Kariophyllis, Yiannis Granitsiotis and Yiannis Nyfantopoulos they didn’t get the time they would have liked, but they still put in a good showing.

The young athlete again relied on her dynamism and speed and despite the fact that she was closed and had to run in the outdoor one, she made a very good appearance. A few days ago, the athlete won the bronze medal at the European U23 Championship.

A very good appearance was also made by Irini Vassiliou, who was seventh in 2.04.86, which is also the second best performance of her career. The experienced athlete was closed in some places, however she showed that she has the potential to chase good performances over the distance. The 800 m race was delayed due to rain that broke out and pushed back the entire program. In the 5,000 m Marios Anagnostou was 5th with 14.38.27.
