Panagiotopoulos: “The EPO is taking disciplinary action against the circuit because it cannot do otherwise”

The facts of the case of the illegal betting circuit on the occasion of the latest information that the EPO, through its Ethics Committee and its president, X. Kotoulopoulos, asked the sports prosecutor to receive the new information that has emerged from the investigations, Dimitris Panagiotopoulos analyzed, speaking to Kyriakos Thomaidis on News Bulletin 247.

The professor of sports law came to the conclusion that essentially the EPO is taking disciplinary action against the circuit because it cannot do otherwise.

“It should be absolutely clear that in the context of independence, it does not mean that an entity that acts independently of the other must request something, and especially from the criminal procedure, to request information that the prosecutor’s investigation may not yet be complete. Or who handling the case is governed by other rules of ethics. It is not certain and it is not absolute that he should give it now or when…”, he initially said and added…

“The process, even without drumbeats, could be done on its own initiative, implicitly by the EPO, and its organs. There is the following issue here, there is personal data, etc., so I am very afraid that such a document is requested, knowing that he will not receive it in time. So, regardless of the criminal or later, if you want, the criminal procedure, – in my opinion, the disciplinary actions should be reinstated when they arise, but the elements that were not taken into account when they were carrying out their own procedure should be brought to light, officially, now”, he said and added that in fact the EPO is carrying out this procedure and is taking disciplinary action because it cannot do otherwise. “EPO is doing it because it would be irreparably exposed. It kind of saves her and the process.”
