The acquisition of Martin Montoya was announced by Mars. A little while earlier Betis had formalized the end of its collaboration with the Catalan full-backwhich has arrived in Thessaloniki since Monday and will be immediately placed at the disposal of Apostolos Terzis.
The 32-year-old ace, who has emerged from Barcelona’s academies, plays mainly as a right-back, while he can also play as a left-back. The “verdiblancos” will cover 60% of his contract (total value of 800,000 euros), which facilitated the discussions and finally led to the deal.
In the past, apart from Barcelona (67 appearances, 12 assists and 2 goals) he has played for Inter, Valencia, Brighton and since 2020 he has been at Betis. Last season he had 6 appearances in La Liga with the Andalusian team.
The announcement in detail:
PAE ARIS announces the acquisition of Martin Montoya for the next two years.
Martin Montoya Torralbo, as his full name is, was born on April 14, 1991 in the city of Gava.
Montoya started playing football at the local CF Gava, but from an early age he joined the famous ‘La Masia’, FC Barcelona’s academy.
Coming through all age levels of the academy, the 32-year-old full-back made his debut with Barcelona B in the Segunda Division in the 2009-10 season under Luis Enrique.
In April 2011, Montoya made his debut with FC Barcelona’s first team in the league, but an injury kept him out of action.
The following season the Catalan defender returned, scored his first goals and established himself in the Blaugrana first team.
After 67 appearances, 2 goals, 12 assists, a UEFA Champions League, 3 Spanish leagues, 2 Spanish Cups and a Spanish Super Cup, his cycle came to an end at Barcelona with Martin Montoya being loaned to Inter in the summer of 2015.
After a year and a half at the Italian club, Montoya returned to Spain to be loaned to Real Betis in February 2016.
There he found a competitive rhythm again and recorded 37 appearances (1 goal, 3 assists) in the league, Spanish Cup and UEFA Europa League.
His good performances paid off with Valencia CF signing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2016.
In the “Bats” he had a “full” two years with 62 appearances (2 goals, 7 assists) in La Liga and Copa del Rey.
In August 2018 Martin Montoya opened a new chapter in his career by moving to the Premier League from Brighton for €7 million.
And in England, Montoya had a “full” – competitive – season with 52 appearances in the Premier League and four in the FA Cup in the two seasons he played there.
In the summer of 2020, Montoya returned to Spain and Real Betis in whose shirt he played until last season.
At the level of national teams, Montoya has been named European Champion twice in a row with the representative group of Spain U21 (2011, 2013), while he also participated in the Spanish team at the 2012 Olympic Games.
As of today, Martin Montoya Torralbo belongs to the ARIS family.
