by

The Croatian coach spoke at the press conference about Dinamo Zagreb’s game against AEK (15/8, 21:00).

Before referring to the competitive part, he wanted to express his condolences to his family Michalis Katsouri about his death, while he mentioned that the “Union” is a very good and experienced team. He also added that what happened in New Philadelphia should be a lesson for everyone it should never happen again something like that.

In detail what he said at the press conference:

“Before we go to the football, I would like to express my condolences to the family of the man who was killed. My condolences go out to everyone who experienced consequences for themselves or their loved ones in this tragedy.”

For AEK: “What I said in Athens. AEK is a serious, experienced team, full of international players, players in serious national teams. They won the championship and the cup against serious teams in Greece by chance. Tomorrow we have a very, very difficult job.”

On whether it is one of the most difficult matches of his career after what happened: “It’s definitely one of the hardest for me. The question is whether this will ever happen again in my career or the running of the club as such. The situation is very complicated, there is nothing we can do about it now, except to prepare for the match as best as possible.

The mental aspect is important, of course we tried to isolate the players as much as possible from this issue. We can’t influence anything, it just takes away our concentration on the pitch. I hope the kids weren’t too stressed about the situation. There is also a rematch, in the end we will be smarter.”

On his team status: “We are working as we have always done. We’re trying to up our game. And so far we’ve been true to that. Sometimes you get something, sometimes you don’t, but apart from the first half against Gorica, I can’t find much that I’m not satisfied with. We were good on the pitch.”

For the problems: “We’ll see today in training. Baturina had a fever, we’ll see if it subsides by tomorrow. We still have some minor issues with some players, but I wouldn’t want to talk about names. There are one or two small problems, but nothing major, so I think everyone will be fine.”

For player sales and departures: “I count everyone who is a member of Dinamo. This issue has been going on for a long time. As the transfer window draws to a close, it becomes increasingly relevant. Some are important players for us. If their sale comes up, we’ll have to play without them, so we’ll see how ready we really are for that.”

For the world: “We must all learn lessons together, work and behave properly so that such things as in Athens do not happen again.”
