Start of the World Athletics with a Greek eight

The 20km men’s walk is the first event or if you prefer the first final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, which starts on Saturday morning. There, Greece will be represented by Alexandros Papamichael. The experienced champion is participating for the sixth time in the event and for the second time he will participate in two events, since he will also participate in the 35 km.

Among the 50 athletes who will compete, the winner of Oregon, Toshikazu Yamanishi, the 2022 world champion at 35km, Massimo Stano, the holder of this year’s top performance, Yang Zhang, as well as Bonfim, Koki Ikeda and Alvaro Martin stand out.

Mouzenidis debut

The first Greek to enter athletics will be Odysseas Mouzenidis. The shot put champion makes his debut in the event and takes part in the second qualifying group, having this year’s record of 19.98. The qualifying limit for the final is 21.40.

Triad in the hammer throw

Christos Franceskakis and Costas Zaltos will participate in the first qualifying group of the hammer throw. The first comes from a difficult year, after he faced health problems and this year he has 76.68.

The latter makes his debut in the event and is excited to claim big shots, having this year’s record of 76.33.

Michalis Anastasakis participates in the second qualifying group. The champion of Alexandros Papadimitriou has 77.42 and aims to qualify for next Sunday’s final. The qualification limit is 77 meters.

With three athletes in the triple jump

On Saturday afternoon, we have three Greek entries in the triple jump qualifier. The “silver” European indoor champion, Nikos Andrikopoulos, the 15-year Greek champion, Dimitris Tsiamis, and this year’s leader in Greece in the open, Andreas Pantazis, are participating in the competition.

The latter makes his debut in the event and competes in the first group, having 16.91.

Tsiamis is competing for the fifth time in the world championship and this year he has 16.44.

Andrikopoulos makes his first appearance at this event. Those who jump at 17.15 will qualify for the final.
