Marialena Artakianou stressed that Greece and Azerbaijan definitely wanted the victory, she believes that the Greek team could do better, she focused on the few chances of qualification ahead of the match against Turkey and she focused on the “blackout” in the fourth set and the mistakes that they took place in the tiebreak.
Analytically: “We knew from the beginning the difficulties of the match, which both teams wanted. We came in strong, we took the lead, but we couldn’t celebrate at the end. I want to say that in general we fought and we all gave our best in a difficult group. We could have done better, but, again, all the girls gave their all.
We are left with the bitterness at the end… We are theoretically hopeful, but we are also playing an opponent who is, if not the top, one of the top teams in the world at the moment. We will enter with all the strength we have to get everything we can and see the other results as well.”
Regarding the bad start and the loss of the lead in the tiebreak, he noted that: “In the fourth set we had a ‘blackout’, we got ‘stuck’ in a spin and, although we tried, the opponents had taken a big lead. What happened in the tie break was also very sad, because again we got stuck and with our mistakes we lost the game. But I say again that we really wanted the victory today. We also wanted it for our country, which is experiencing this difficult situation with the fires, and we will try this tomorrow too…”.
