A big match is ahead of her AEKwhich treats her Antwerp at New Philadelphia (30/8, 22:00) aiming to overturn a 1-0 first-leg loss and advance to their group stage Champions League.
O Mijat Gacinovic represented the players at the press conference ahead of the match, emphasizing his great faith in the team, the need for support from the world, but also his own ambition to compete in the Champions Leagueas he has never played in the group stage.
In detail what he said:
On the team’s mentality against Antwerp: “As the coach said, we have the same mentality regardless of the match. It will be a difficult match against Antwerp. We will go in for victory and qualification, we really want it. And with this mentality we will enter.”
What should AEK do differently compared to the first match: “We are playing well. We create chances, but we don’t score much. I have a lot of faith in the team and the technical staff. We wouldn’t change a thing. With Dinamo Zagreb we scored two goals at the end. We have to be patient again. We will have the support of the people. If we all have patience together we will succeed in the end. I believe we can achieve it tomorrow as well.”
On never having played in a Champions League group stage despite having European experience: “Really, the reason I came to AEK was to play in the Champions League. I had it in my mind that this team could give me a chance to play. It’s a dream for me and a great opportunity to play.”
On whether he expects a development similar to Dinamo Zagreb: “I can imagine how stressful it must be for all of you. I feel it too when I’m not playing. When I’m inside I’m focused and calmer. I won’t mind being on the field until the last minute and this is a message for the coach not to take me off.”
