One… to say the least, a turbulent summer has been lived by Amr Ward.
The Egyptian winger is known from his Greek past for his quirky character, but this year he took it a step further. At first, he agreed with her Raza Casablancafrom which he was released after only 12 days for psychological reasons.
Afterwards, he agreed and signed with her Doxa Katokopiabut this plan also fell apart as there was an issue with his travel documents that did not allow him to stay in Cyprus.
His third attempt at finding a team involved her Esteghlal from Tehran. He had agreed with the Iran team, but this issue did not progress either. In fact, the CEO of the group, Ali Kathirmade some terrific revelations about the negotiations with Ward, who asked to arrange a private jet to go from Morocco to Iran because of his dog’s condition!
At the same time, he spoke about how the president of Doxa Katokopia, Kostas Christodouloutried to exploit the situation for financial gain.
In detail what he said:
“Esteglal signed with Doxa for the transfer of Ward, even the player signed, but I don’t know what happened! The player had first gone to Morocco (Raza Casablanca) and after ten days he announced that he did not want to end his cooperation with the team (he had cited psychological reasons).
At the same time Ward was negotiating with us. I don’t know where he found my phone but he picked me up and told me to find him a private jet to go from Morocco to Iran. I asked him “where can I find a jet?” and he told me he has a dog and because of his dog’s condition he needs a private jet. I tried to find out how we could work it out and thought about deducting the cost from his salary. But I saw that it was not easy to do as it required a permit.
The interesting thing was when we found out that the president of Doxa Cyprus did this for Warda and took him to Cyprus with a private jet and a very small contract. The cost was €40,000 and Doxa signed the player for €100,000, but Ward was stranded at the airport.
The president of Doxa is also an agent. He had thought of drawing up a plan to get the player for €100,000, pay a total of €140,000 with the jet and give him to us for €250,000, so because of the jet he would make a profit of €110,000 without the player coming in in Cyprus.
However, we reached an agreement with Doxa but the matter did not progress. A few days ago they wrote that he was arrested at the airport and some say he was deported to Egypt. I honestly don’t know what his condition is. I don’t know if he will come to Esteghlal. Qualitatively, he is a very good player. I don’t know where he found my phone! He had called me to tell me that he is in a hospital in Morocco and that I should send him 10,000 euros. In general, he is not a normal player, but he is very quality.”
