Poget: ‘I’m not worried about the performance – I’m jealous we played in full stadiums’

About the defeat of the national team by the Netherlands, he spoke at the press conference Gustavo Poget.

In it, he said that he is not worried about today’s appearance, while he added that he is jealous that Greece played in full stadiums in Paris and Eindhoven, while he expects the same to happen in the OPAP Arena.

In detail what he said:

“For us it was a good lesson, we learned the standards you need to have if you want to be in the Euros, it was a good lesson for us too. The future will tell, especially the first part was difficult for us.”

For appearance, if it should concern us: “I’m not worried, let’s be realistic, we know who we are. Holland is a team that has been playing for over 20 years in a certain way, we change players, coaches and tactics, we don’t have the DNA to put into every game. We have to improve if we want to go to the Euros. The match in Paris was Euro level.

When I play football I want the tallest. They see me tall on the street. I was on the field with the Dutch, I looked shorter. Everything is bigger, everything is stronger, everything is faster. We have to improve to be able to compete.”

On whether he was surprised by the Dutch trio: “We trained on this system. In June we had tried it, the faces may have changed, but we were prepared. Our opponents were better, we need to improve overall, as do I.”

On whether 2/2 is needed in the next games: “It’s the only way. We said it when we started, we have to win both of those (Ireland, Gibraltar) to have any hope. There are no surprises so far, but it will be difficult.”

For the conclusions against France and the Netherlands: “What I saw is that there is a gap between them and us. We have to improve to be top against them. I’m a little jealous because we played against them in full stadiums and I can’t wait to see when we play in a full stadium too.

I’m not putting the blame on the fans, it’s just that everyone has to do their best to bring the fans. As I said before the game, all our thoughts are with those affected by the weather in Greece, all that happened in the previous days like in Piraeus. I hope everything gets better soon.”
