Evanthia Bournia, although she changed class (now in 2) showed she was ready and despite the greater degree of difficulty, won a medal in yet another top championship, after the 3rd place in the World Championship in Spain, last November (in class 1 at the time).
In a completely balanced game with the Dutch Femke Koben, the 16-year-old Greek champion showed that she will not let the opportunity go to waste, prevailing with 3-2 sets of her opponent and winning the bronze medal in yet another important event.
Bournia entered the game strongly and took the first game 11-4, for the Dutch to immediately answer to take the 2nd 11-9 and tie the game at 1-1.
The “bronze” world champion, however, won the 3rd game again impressively with 11-3. Koben, as if in the carbon of the 2nd game, took the 4th with 11-9 and equalized at 2-2.
Bournia entered the 5th and last game determined and led 9-1 (!) to reach the final 11-2, which gave her the game and the game with 3-2 sets, putting her on the podium, despite the degree of difficulty in this class.
Today (8/9) the couples enter the battle
Today (12:45, Greek time) the duo of Mouchtis/Hatzikyriakos enter the battle of the couples in the men’s doubles (class MD14), with opponents the Spanish duo of Alberto Alcarath Seoane/Alejandro Diath.
A little later (17:15, Greek time) in the mixed pairs (class XD4) Evanthia Bournia and Grigoris Chrysikos will face the Italian duo of Carlotta Ragacini/Federico Falco.
