Canada’s coach made statements after the victory over the USA in the minor final of the World Cup, Jordi Fernandezpraising his players, making special mention of Brooks’ incredible performance and talking about the difficulties his team overcame to reach the bronze medal, while he also made a special mention of Blatt, whom he described as his angel!
“I’m proud of Dillon Brooks. He didn’t just play defense, he’s the best perimeter defender in the World Cup and he played offense too, look at his numbers. It doesn’t get any better than this. His appearance was incredible. Of course we have to learn the box-out. It is best to learn from victories.
All 12 players worked from day one, they all got better and built our identity. We weren’t perfect, but we showed who we are. I thank all the children, the organization, the country that trusted me. I want to thank two people, my wife, it’s hard to be away from your family for so long. Thanks also to David Blatt, you all know him. He is my angel, he is always there for me and I thank him.
The medal means a lot to the kids, to the organization, to the country, to the coaches, to everyone. You don’t know what it means until you do. You are going through a lot during this time, with defeats, with emotions. All these relationships we made will last forever. I love these guys, I’d take all 12 of them on my teams from now until the end of their careers because I’ve been with them for weeks and I know who they are. This is important for us, for our team for the next few years. There are guys who want to come, we’ll decide when the time comes.”.
