An air bridge with helicopters has been set up since the morning between Volos and its blocked areas East Pelion in order to help the trapped people and supply them with food.
The military helicopters have already transported people who need treatment to the “Achillopoulio” Hospital of Volos, but there is no serious health problem for any of the patients.
Tons of food and bottled water have been transported to the Panthessal stadium and from there, after being loaded onto the helicopters, they are transported to the settlements of Eastern Pelion and mainly to Puri, Zagora and Horefto where there is no water, food and electricity.
The same helicopters make continuous flights to and from Anilio, Makrirachi, Mouresi, Xurihti, Analipsi and other settlements with smaller populations.
The major problem of the destruction of all road access to Eastern Pelion was pointed out to APE-MPE by the mayor of Zagora-Muresi, Panagiotis Koutsaftis, who emphasized that “the situation after so many days without electricity, without clean drinking water and communication has reached its limits the population, local and tourists, who have no way of escape. Also, the natural disaster has also caused enormous destruction in the apple cultivation of the area that everything was destroyed during the harvest, and the so far financially healthy “Zagorin” Agricultural Cooperative will be led to destruction if there are no solutions to channelize the production”.
To Bulletwhich was also visited by the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the situation shows signs of improvement, even if rudimentary with the water supply of part of the city with non-potable water, but only for domestic use and in his statements the mayor Achilleas Beos said that “I informed the President of the Republic and explained to her what the situation is and that Volos is slowly returning to normality, both with electricity and water supply, which are the two main issues that concern the city and the population. The city is full of dust, but I guarantee you that in 15-20 days it will be completely normal. There are over 150 machines working right now and that’s the bet we have. And I explained this to Mrs. President who wanted to know about the situation in Volos and Pelion and wished that it would not happen again and that the wounds left behind by the natural disaster would be quickly overcome”.
However, in Volos and the entire urban complex there is also the problem of no water supply, which has caused great financial damage to the business world since restaurants, cafes, bars, bakeries and hotels are not operating.
