Karditsa: “A.S.K. will support our flood-affected fellow citizens”

by

Her city experienced difficult times with the devastating floods Karditsa and it would not be possible for the basketball team that competes in the first division of the Greek league to remain unaffected by all this (Basketball League).

THE ASK. issued a statement, in which he refers to the effort being made for the city to return to normality, but also to the difficulties the club is facing before the start of official duties.

The announcement of Karditsa:

“Our region experienced in the past days, the most difficult moments of its modern history. The human losses, the destruction of property, infrastructure, but also the disintegration of the productive fabric of our region and of Thessaly as a whole, severely test the endurance of all of us.

As the entire organization of AS Karditsa, we express our sorrow for the unjust loss of human lives, but also our condolences to the families of the victims. We also express our support to all those who lost their homes, their property, who today see the world as they knew it no longer exists.

But at the same time, we are all invited to actively participate in a titanic effort to rebuild Karditsa and our region, to give hope, future and perspective to our place. In this effort, A.S.K. will fight in every way, so that the wounds from the great disaster will be eased as soon as possible and step by step and all together, we will give life to Karditsa and support to those who need it.

All of us, from the first moment, participate in actions and initiatives to stand by the families hit by the disaster. With voluntary effort, with offers and we sincerely thank all the teams of the Basket League, for their support and practical support.

And our own home, the New Indoor Gym, was mercilessly hit. The damage suffered by the natural disaster is significant, with the voluntary effort of even our coaches and players, we managed to reduce the losses, but it will take time and methodical work to restore the serious damage to make our stadium work again. In the face of this challenge, we declare that we are “present”, we will be here, because we owe it to those who have trusted us and supported us for so many years, but above all, we have a duty to try through sports, extroversion, to give to the tested our fellow citizens, joy and pride. We must give a way out to our youth, hope to our society, support to our fellow citizens. In the next period, we will announce in detail, specific actions to support our flood-affected fellow citizens and especially the children of the families who are currently being tested.

The Basket League championship cannot wait and our team was forced to be outside of Karditsa for almost a week in order to continue operating, even under difficult conditions. The training sessions are now held in the old closed Sports Center, the friendly matches are held away from home, in an effort for the team to gain pace and prepare for a very difficult and demanding start in the Basket League. The competition plan does not change, while the final additions to the team’s roster will be announced in the coming days.

Adjusting the Basket League schedule

We would like to thank ESAKE and all the Basket League KAE for the immediate response to the request of A.S. Karditsa JAPONIKI, for the adjustment of the Basket League program. Specifically, given the damage to the “Yiannis Bourousis” Indoor Gymnasium, ASK requested, and ESAKE immediately accepted, the reversal of the venue in our team’s first home games for the championship. This means that after the draw on Tuesday, September 12, ASK will play away from home the games that were scheduled to be at home, until all the damage to the closed gym is repaired. Therefore, in those matches where there will be an inversion of the venue, they will take place in Karditsa in the second round of the championship. We hope that our closed gym will be restored as soon as possible, so that the team can compete together and next to their best teammate, the team’s fans, as soon as possible. The reversal of the venue for our first home games is undoubtedly a significant competitive as well as financial burden for our team, but this choice was the only solution that ensures that:

A. All home games of AS Karditsa JAPONIKI will take place as normal at the “Yiannis Bourousis” Indoor Gym, in conditions of safety, comfort and full operation of the indoor facility, together with and next to our fans.

B. The right of the fans to be next to the team at ALL home matches of the league, whether they have already purchased a season ticket or will purchase it in the near future, is not affected. All home matches (which this year are actually more due to the change in the playing system) will take place at the “Yiannis Bourousis” Indoor Gymnasium of Karditsa. On this occasion, we invite our fans who are able to support the team in practice with a season ticket, especially in this critical period.

C. All sponsorship agreements that have been drawn up or will be drawn up are in full force, therefore all benefits to the sponsoring companies and ways of promotion will be observed, without any change.

From Wednesday, September 20, the academies

As regards the academies of AS Karditsa, they will operate normally from Wednesday, September 20, according to the program for which the children and parents have already been informed. All the necessary preparations and adjustments have already been made for the operation of the academies, so that the children, with a delay of ten days, can enter the field and experience the joy of basketball and sports. For new registrations and information, parents and children can contact Mr. Vasilis Bolotis at tel. 694-4185740 and every afternoon 4-8 p.m. at the “Yiannis Bourousis” Indoor Gym».
