Marseille owner: ‘Show of aggression from fans – Support Longoria’

by

The atmosphere in Marseille smells of gunpowder in recent days and is particularly tense. His departure Marthelino from the technical leadership was not the only one, since four members of the administration declared their resignation as well.

Nevertheless, her owner Marseilles, Frank McCourtwith his statement on the club’s website tries to put things in order.

He declares his support to Pablo Longoriapresident of the club, while stressing that he will do everything in his power to protect everyone in the team.

At the same time, he asked for unity around the club, while emphasizing that the fans in the meeting they had with its representatives Marseille they showed aggression, which in essence will not be tolerated again!

The announcement in detail:

“For the past seven years, I have had the privilege of owning and managing Olympique de Marseille, one of the most iconic and exciting sports clubs in the world. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, especially in recent years under Pablo Longoria’s leadership, and that’s why I wanted to respect his desire to speak publicly and tell the truth. I am also grateful to all the talented employees who work on and off the field to strengthen this organization.

Monday’s meeting between the OM Executive Board and representatives of the fans should have been an opportunity to come together to defend the interests of the club. Instead, it turned into a disturbing display of aggression, with members of the OM Executive Council facing threats of violence.

Faced with this situation, I strongly support Pablo Longoria and we are working to determine the best course of action for the club and the members of his team. Supporting the OM board, staff and players, who are the guarantors of our club’s continued success, is and will remain my first priority. This support includes guaranteeing their safety and a healthy atmosphere conducive to victory.

The situation that occurred on Monday which led to the resignation of Marcelino and his staff is unacceptable and, unfortunately, it is not the only example of behavior that goes against the mission of our club. Our goal is to win on the ground, gather and inspire the people of Marseille. Monday’s incident is just one of many that undermines the foundation and operation of the club and makes it much more difficult to achieve our goals.

OM management has taught us that deep change is necessary to give the club a real chance to grow unhindered in the long term. This change requires strong collective support, within and outside OM. Only change will allow OM to maintain its identity while continuing to build a club of the stature that our supporters and the city of Marseille deserve.

Let’s all stand united behind the Marseille Olympics, starting with tonight’s all-important race in Amsterdam.

Let’s go OM!’

We remind you that Marseille is in the 2nd group of the Europa League, together with AEK, while in today’s premiere they are playing away from home against Ajax.
