After an online vote, Xenia Stathis prevailed over Nikos Filippakopoulos and replaced the resigned Yiannis Kordoutis in the position of General Secretary of E.F.O.E.P.A.
The new Secretary General has been on the board of directors since the beginning of the presidency of Kostas Papageorgiou, i.e. in March 2021 and previously held the position of special secretary.
The former champion of Greece has been general secretary for a year and a half. He resigned due to increased obligations, but remains a member of the Board.
The head of the administration thanked the old international athlete for the cooperation, wished good strength to the new General Secretary, while also thanking former members who left during his days.
“We have had a change of persons in the administration since the beginning of my presidency and it has been my remiss not to have publicly thanked all the previous administrators. Sokratis Papasavoglou, Maria Moirou and Giorgos Lygouras were valuable collaborators, but for personal and completely respectable reasons they resigned from the Board of Directors.
I am sure, however, that they still offer, each in their own way, the most to our sport. I would like to especially thank Giannis Kordoutis for the cooperation we have had during this time. Giannis is still by our side as a member, but increased obligations led him to this decision, as he considered that he could not cope with the duties of the general secretary as he would have liked”, emphasized Costas Papageorgiou and added that:
“Let me now welcome and wish good strength to Xenia Stathis, who has been running a lot all this time and has helped the federation as much as possible. I am sure that this will continue in an even better way through the position of General Secretary”.
Xenia Stathis, who continues to be the Federation’s public relations manager, stood by her priorities. “The first concern is the development of the sport and our athletes. To give equipment to the clubs (tables, taraflex) and, with the appropriate logistical infrastructure, to have international level events, which will generate income for our athletes.
Nothing changes for me. I will continue what I have been doing until now, only my responsibilities will be more. I am very willing to help and will look to be at the federation offices and SEF on an almost daily basis. I want to be closer to the athletes and the workers, not to have a typical, formulaic relationship with them.”
