A few days after the great victory of AEK in England, the Jibril Sidibe talk to Opap News about the unique moments he lived, the importance of this victory for the team while he revealed that the phase of his goal, they had worked on it in training and had tried it in other games so far but the result was not the same…
Sidibe’s statements in detail:
Jibril, congratulations on the great victory. The goal you scored was voted best of the week in the Europa League. Was it a result of work in training, or was it a spur of the moment when you found a certain gap in the stationary phase?
“Thank you very much. Each static phase for us creates several scenarios that we can “run” during the match, while at the same time we adapt to how the opponent defends. It’s something we generally work on in training.
We had tried it in some other games with other teammates of mine but it didn’t work. I’m very happy that we did it in such a game and I was excited myself to score in such an important game my first goal. The truth is that the execution of the corner by “Haji” (s.s. Hadjisafi) was flawless”.
After scoring the goal, you ran to celebrate with your teammates and the coach on the bench. Did you have a specific person in mind that you wanted to dedicate the goal to?
“I didn’t go to any particular teammate or the coach. I ran to the bench asking all my teammates to come together to celebrate as a team.
I wanted to do it because it was our first European group game with this team. We experienced great moments last year with the league and the cup, but this game was the development of our team at the European level as well. I wanted us all to experience it together.”
AEK won on English soil for the first time since 1976. How do you feel that with your goal you wrote your name so emphatically in the team’s history?
“I found out this impressive statistic after the match! For me, with games like this, clubs grow even more. As a Monaco player I had played several games at this level and in this atmosphere. It is very important for the team to play these games against very high level teams and players.
We made history on Thursday and the important thing in football is to create emotions, uniting the players with the fans with such victories. That’s the most important thing.”
Would you like to convey a message to the friends of the team who traveled to England, but also to the fans who watched the match from all over the world?
“I’ll tell you the truth. When I scored and heard the ‘goal’ chant, it was so loud I couldn’t tell if it was our fans or Brighton’s fans.
It was shocking, I can even say touching. I want us to have the same atmosphere in every game we play, the support from our fans has been impressive. We stay cool and humble to achieve the best we can”.
