World Deaf Tennis on the Peninsula: The opening ceremony and the results

Premiere yesterday (Saturday, 23/9) of the Deaf Men’s – Women’s World Tennis Championship (September 23-29), as well as the official opening ceremony of the event, hosted at the premises of the Lyttos Beach Hotel, co-organized by the Municipality’s Non-profit Enterprise Hersonissou (K.E.D.X.). The event is under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Sports and the Municipality of Hersonissos and is held with the support of EFOA and the 7th Union.

After the end of the premiere games, the opening ceremony took place, modest, but sporting with the participation of all the athletes of the countries located on the Crete Peninsula.

Greetings were addressed by the ICSD representative Alexandra Polivanchuk and ICSD Tennis Director Tobias Burtz, as well as the match coordinator Evanthia Plachura.

The president of the Organizing Committee and Advisor of EOAK, Takis Kordonouris, welcomed the missions from foreign countries and thanked the sponsors. The Panhellenic Union of Radio Station Owners (PEIRAS), as communication sponsor and the following: Lyttos Beach Hotel, S Resorts, ANEK, Blue Star Ferries.

Defeat in women’s doubles

In the premiere of the women’s doubles, the Greek duo of Vasiliki Kalogeropoulou and Anna Kasoumi were defeated by Sugimoto Chiaki and Yuria Miyagawa, from Japan, with 2-0 sets (6-2, 6-1) and could not advance to the round of 8 organization.

In the men’s singles, 13-year-old Lazaros Skarpos was disqualified from further action as he did not go down to compete against Australian John Peter Lui.

The same thing happened in the men’s doubles, as Grigoris Samartzidis could not compete alone, against the Poles Witold Brzdil and Jacek Kalinowski.

Grigoris Samartzidis (No. 9 on the board) enters the “battle” of the world in the “round of 32” (09:00), in the men’s singles, against Gabriel Latsky (Israel), who yesterday defeated Shao Wu Chu ( Chinese Tapei), with 2-0 sets.

At the same time in the women’s singles, in the “round of 32” Anna Kasoumi faces Poland’s Beata Kasparz. And at around 1:30 p.m., together with Lazaro Scarpo, they play in the mixed pairs, “round of 32”, with opponents the French duo of Maxime Paul Girarts/Julie Sireix.
