Kanaan on sportfm.gr: “Everyone will need to step up – We are not concerned with what Panathinaikos did”

After last year’s excellent season, do you believe in a similar course this year as well?

“That’s the plan. I can’t see the future, but I know the work that I personally and all my teammates are doing. If we continue like this and take one game at a time, the team will stay strong and I really like our chances.”

After the departure of Sluka and Vezenkov, do you expect to have increased responsibilities in the attacking part?

“That’s how it looks so far. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me, I work hard, I trust myself and I will do whatever it takes to help my team. I can’t do it all by myself of course, I know that, and I think it will take a step-up from many players, not just me, to fill the void left by Slukas and Vezenkov. I trust them, they trust me and we will do everything we can to make it happen.”

Despite the loss of these two, it is evident from the friendlies that the team’s philosophy has not changed. Do you think it can be just as effective?

“We continue to follow our coach’s plan. There are times in the game when someone needs to take the team on, and I’m sure we have plenty of options. It won’t always be the same person, it will take a collective effort. It will be a challenge, there are many good teams, we have a target on our back and we know that everyone wants to beat us.”

Panathinaikos made a lot of transfers in the summer and has a lot of excitement. Is this something that “stresses” you out, or are you excited about the increased competition?

“I’m never stressed, I’ve never been more excited. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not afraid of anyone, any team and any game. Whatever challenge is in front of me, I always aim to “attack” it. I’m very competitive. We don’t care what Panathinaikos did in the summer. This has nothing to do with Olympiakos. I’m focused on what we’re doing, me and the rest of the guys on the team. When the time comes to face him, we’ll see.”
