Stoiximan Super League: In Leoforos and “Zosimades” the lights are on

by

After the postponement of the match between Volos and Panserraikos, the curtain for the 7th matchday of the Stoiximan Super League opens today, with the program including four matches.

The most important match takes place at 19:30 at Leoforo, where Panathinaikos welcomes PAOK, and the second most important game will take place at “Zosimades”, where a difficult and demanding game awaits Olympiakos against PAS Ioannina.

Lamia-Panaitolikos

In their last four games in both venues, the home team has not managed to win. In their last visit to Lamia, Panaitolikos won 3-1, a score with which the Fthiotida team also won in the match for the Stoiximan Playouts in the last meeting between them.

The usual result in Lamia’s home games is a draw, as four of their seven games have ended without a winner, while the 2020-21 season for the regular duration of the league has not seen a single goal in the matches between them, with two clean sheets draws, first in Lamia and then in Agrinio. In their match for the Playouts, Lamia won 3-0.

Without a goal there is still a match against Lamia at home, in the 2019-20 season. There are still two 2-2 draws, in their first Super League meeting in 2017-18 and the last time they met in Lamia for Matchday 4 of the 2021-22 league.

The two teams have also played in the 3rd National League, with their first match being on January 17, 1988, where Lamia prevailed at home with 4-1. They have never faced each other for the Greek Cup.

Ares-Kifisia

Aris has won both of its home games this year, against Astera Tripoli and Panaitolikos, but away from home it has three defeats against OFI, Lamia and Olympiacos, while in the derby with PAOK in Toumba, the two teams drew 0-0.

The Yellows have never faced Kifisia in the past in any category, nor have they ever been drawn for the Greek Cup. The last team that took their first steps in the division and faced the Yellows was Volos, where in the first game in their history they were defeated 1-0 in Magnesia, but as the home team they won 4-0.

The immediately previous news of the category they faced was Lamia, where they prevailed 3-0 in Fthiotida on August 27, 2018, in their maiden game in the category, while in the second round they scored another victory with 1-0.

Kifisia has so far played three away games, in which it has lost the same number of games, against PAS Ioannina (3-0), PAOK (2-1) and Olympiakos (4-0).

The coach of Aris, Akis Manzios is connected to the club of Kifissia, since it is the team in which he rose to prominence and played until Panionios acquired him as a footballer in the summer of 1991.

Panathinaikos-PAOK

The home team has not won in the last four games of the two teams, independent of home and competition. The three are at the home of Panathinaikos, where PAOK got a victory in the regular season of last year’s championship, a draw in the match for the Greek Cup and a new draw for the Stoiximan Super League Playoffs. Panathinaikos, for its part, prevailed 2-1 in Toumba for the Stoiximan Super League Playoffs match.

In recent years, the two teams have faced each other for both the league and the Greek Cup without a sequence of results. In their last 20 games for all competitions, the home has been confirmed in only ten, with the victories being divided into five for Panathinaikos and five for PAOK.

Out of a total of 75 matches in their history with Panathinaikos as home team, only eight were scoreless and ended 0-0, while their most productive days are with 7 goals, in the 5-2 of the 2000-01 season and the 4- 3 of 2014-15. PAOK’s biggest away win against Panathinaikos is 3-0 in 2022-23.

Christoph Vazeha with 9 goals is the footballer who has scored the most times in Panathinaikos – PAOK matches followed by Dimitris Saravakos with 8. Dimitris Salpingidis is in 3rd place with five goals, where three are in the colors of Panathinaikos and the two more as a PAOK football player.

This is the 76th meeting between the two teams since 1959-60, when the First National/Super League championship was established. The first match in their history took place on February 7, 1960 at the Alexandra Avenue stadium and Panathinaikos prevailed 1-0 thanks to a goal by Vangelis Panakis.

PAS Ioannina-Olympiakos

In its last twelve games against PAS Ioannina, Olympiacos remains undefeated in both venues for all competitions. The Red and Whites have eight wins, while four matches have ended in draws.

Among those ties are Olympiakos’ last two visits to Ioannina, where on March 20, 2022 their efforts ended in a 1-1 draw, while last season they were tied at 2-2 despite the Reds having taken the lead in half time with 2-0.

PAS Ioannina’s last home win against Olympiacos was on May 6, 2018 on the last matchday of the league with Tzimopoulos, Pedro Conte and Vidal scoring the goals.

The most frequent score between the two teams is 1-1, which has occurred six times, while Olympiacos has scored three wins of 2-1 and 2-0. For PAS, the scores he has repeated are 3-0 (twice) and 3-1 (twice).

In January 1975, the two teams met for the first time in their history for the championship. Olympiacos left the stadium of Ioannina with a 2-0 victory and Giorgos Delikaris scoring the maiden goal of their matches in the First National/Super League and Vassilis Siokos writing the final score.
