Martinez: “Every game and a different challenge – We stay focused on our goals”

Satisfied with the image of his team and the emphatic victory with a score of 3-0 in Ioannina over PAS, the Olympiakos coach stated at the press conference, Diego Martinez.

In his statements, the coach of the “red and whites” focused on the aggression shown by his team, on the ease with which Olympiacos finishes its games in Greece, but also on the way of the game.

“Congratulations to our players and team, we got a fair win. Despite the fact that the start of the game was delayed and that delay may have affected us, we stayed focused, took the chances we wanted and scored the goals, we could have scored more and finished the game earlier. Against a difficult pitch and a difficult opponent with whom Olympiacos traditionally struggles, but we succeeded and got the victory”.

The ease with which Olympiacos ends its games in Greece, do you think it sends a message to its opponents, especially now that it is slipping away in points? : “We don’t think about other teams and other games and other teams’ results. We think about ourselves, to be true to our goals. It is difficult what we do, it is not easy for any team to achieve the numbers we are achieving now. Each game is a different challenge. Now it was another win in which we didn’t concede a goal and that’s the way we want to continue”.

The fact that Olympiacos tried many long shots, was it some instruction of yours or did it have to do with the psychology of PAS Ioannina? :“It’s the identity of our game, we don’t do it with a specific opponent. The goal that all of us players have is to score and they do it in any way. But maybe we needed more accuracy, we don’t aim to score against any particular opponent, but it’s something we always want. We saw after 2-0 and looking for the third goal, we made some wrong choices many times. That’s down to the players’ appetite to score, but maybe we should have better options in our final effort.”.
