On the third and penultimate day of the World Table Tennis Youth Contender of Montenegro, the 13-year-olds Konstantinos Alexoudis and Konstantinos Isaakidis took part in the category above theirs, they chased with all their might something substantial, but in the end they came in third place in the qualifying groups them and off the board, as happened yesterday in the Under 13 category (then with one win-two losses in groups of four).
Alexoudis, who thanks to his points from previous Contenders, was in the second row of the seeding and with reasonable chances to advance, lost another decisive match in five sets, while Isaakidis, who made his debut in an international tournament, holds the very useful experience and good game presence. The two talented athletes of GS Filia Orestiadas were coached by the new technical manager of the association, Manos Alaroupi.
In the boys’ Under 15 category, six qualifying groups were formed. Alexoudis was in the second group, he strongly claimed the qualification through the second place, but suffered a defeat at the limit, as it happened on Wednesday in two games.
On Thursday morning, the Greek singles champion lost to English leader Ralph Pattison 3-0 sets (6-11, 5-11, 5-11). He then played for the “ticket” to the next stage with Albanian Aron Koni, leading 2-1, but fought back 3-2 to be eliminated from the “knockouts” (10-12, 11-8, 12- 10, 9-11, 5-11).
The unranked internationally until the tournament Isaakidis participated in the fourth group.
He tried his best, although he couldn’t threaten and settled for third place. The “bronze” winner in singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the 2023 Panhellenic Championship was defeated first by the Montenegrin leader Jaksa Krivokapic with 3-0 sets (2-11, 7-11, 1-11) and then by the Englishman Max Radiven with the same score (7-11, 3-11, 5-11).
From the end of October to the beginning of November, the program includes a new Youth Contender in Europe and Greek athletes will also appear there.
