Nikolaou on bwinSPORT FM 94.6: “Almeida reminds me of Fantronk”

by

Common to their racing philosophy Francisek Fundronk and Matias Almeidafound and reported in an interview with News Bulletin 247 and to Christos Sotirakopoulos The Lakis Nikolaou.

On this day, October 7, in 1977 the Dutch coach – who created one of the best teams that have appeared in the history of Greek football – was fired by AEK and the Luke Barlow. He was hired in his place Zlatko Tchaikovsky. The veteran ace, former president and current head of the “Union’s” medical team, spoke about this change and not only that.

It was a bit of a surprise, in the sense that there was nothing leading up to this change. Perhaps the thought of Loukas Barlou himself leaving the team, because Zafeiropoulos had started to get busy. We did not expect that.

The system he brought (inc. Fandronk) and the way he made the team play, corresponds to today’s conditions. Tchaikovsky found a solid team. He was a very smart coach, he let her play on her own. The fruit had fallen from the tree and they had someone else catch it. 90% of players didn’t like the change. We told Barlo that too. There was a Board of Directors meeting, where our leader, Mimis Papaioannou, did not want to go and I went as the second in line. Fandronc was a big personality in the field of football. I started my career as a center back. I had to play center forward in Atromitos, because they didn’t have players and as a striker I went to AEK. He had the insight to see the positions of the players, like me or Ardizoglou. The bad thing is that he didn’t have a lot of help from the environment.

Tchaikovsky also did something that Fandronk might not have been ready for. It relieved us of the pressure. He went to the field in the morning, we did double trainings. Training was happier. Fandronk left bitterly. He loved the team very much. I feel a bit responsible, because I participated in that Council. I think that if Papaioannou had gone, he might have been able to oppose more“, he initially noted.

Afterwards, he also referred to his current AEK Matias Almeidawhom he compared to Fandronc: “It doesn’t need any fixing, it’s progressing well. Maybe in the beginning now there was a fatigue, but it was reasonable. We have a normal coach, with a good staff. Reminds me of Fandronk’s tactic. A fast team, a pressure team. Maybe in my eyes sometimes the rotation doesn’t work out for him. I think we made a bad cycle in the previous years. We have a great stadium. The team has great potential and we will see it on the way to EuropeLakis Nikolaou added.
