Having been crowned champion from yesterday’s Sprint Race, the Dutch pilot of Red Bull performed another dominant performance, celebrating without much of a “sweat” his 14th victory in 17 races so far this season! In 2-3 the much raised McLaren, with Piastre and Norrisby Russell to finish 4th despite clashing with Hamilton (who dropped out) in the first round. In the 5th place o Leclerc6th Alonso, while Ocon, Bottas, Zou and Perez completed the top ten.
By Max Verstappen has also been crowned mathematically champion since Saturday (7/10), after his second place finish in the Sprint Race (finishing behind Lando Norris), the Qatar Grand Prix started with Carlos Sainz not to be on the grid, due to a problem with his Ferrari’s fuel system.
The Dutchman started from pole position after his dominant performance in qualifying on Friday (6/10), with Russell next to him and Hamilton and Alonso behind. Leclerc and Piastri started from 5th and 6th respectively, while Perez started from the pit-lane, due to an engine change in his Red Bull, following his Sprint Race collision with Hulkenberg.
A disastrous start to the race for Mercedes, after all Russell and Hamilton they collided at the start, with the second forced to retire and the first pitted, returning from last place. The safety car came out on lap 4, with Verstappen, Piastri and Alonso in the top three. Nothing changed until lap 17, when the drivers pitted for the first time for a tire change. Russell rose from last place to 7th, while Verstappen continuously widened his gap (up to 33”) from his pursuers.
In the 33rd round o Alonso had an exit, allowing Leclerc to overtake him, taking him 5th place, in the McLarens of Piastre and Norris to remain in the podium positions. With an amazing pace, Russell climbed to 4th, even creating a “safety gap” from 5th Leclerc.
In the final stretch of the race, McLaren closed the gap on Versteppen, but did not really threaten him, with the Dutchman taking the checkered flag first, confirming once again this season’s dominance!
