Many and important changes in the world ranking were brought today 10/10 by the participation of Greek champions in the recent World Tale Tennis Feeder of Sweden.
First of all, Konstantinos Angelakis, who had the best course in Stockholm and reached the first 16 of the singles, impressively returned to the international men’s evaluation table. He climbed 463 places, appears at number 324 and is now the second Greek in the table after Panagiotis Gionis!
Yiannis Sgouropoulos, Giorgos Stamatouros, who in the same Feeder passed the qualifying process and were eliminated in the 1st round of the singles (s.s. of “64”) also benefited a lot in terms of scores. Sgouropoulos moved this week to number 337 with a rise of 102 places and Stamatouros to 438 with a rise of 341 places. Gionis and Malamatenia Papadimitriou did not improve in the same part, who in the Swedish capital had been defeated in the 1st round and the last qualifying match respectively.
The World Ranking is published every Tuesday and the new one is for Week 41 of 2023. Angelakis has not appeared in the rankings lately and getting points was his main goal in the Swedish tournament. In the end it went very well with a total of four wins (from two in qualifiers and mainly board) and this was also reflected in the rating board. He now has 23 points and made the jump to number 324 from the 787 he was counted on.
Sgouropoulos had lost ground in recent months and after Stockholm he is making up some of it. He took 10 points from his two qualifying wins, his total now stands at 21, and he moved up to number 337 from 439 last week.
Stamatouros also made a huge rise in the ITTF table, who had also qualified for the Feeder main table with two wins and then was eliminated in the “64”. He had just 2 points, made them 12 and climbed to number 438 from 779 in week 40. Gionis was directly in the 1st round of the competition. He lost there to the eventual winner Trulls Meregard so there was no improvement. He fell slightly and is in the 130th position of the ranking from 132nd.
Always referring to our athletes who participated last week in an evaluated event, we add that on the women’s side, only Malamatenia Papadimitriou participated in the games in the Swedish capital. The 19-year-old champion had achieved one victory in the qualifiers and was eliminated in the deciding game to qualify for the board. He got only 2 points and with 8 in total he stayed at number 440.
It should be noted that the new number 1 in the men’s world ranking is Wang Chuqin. The left-handed Chinese player won the Star Contender tournament in Lanzhou, China a few days ago, getting 600 points.
* Konstantinos Alexoudis and Konstantinos Isaakidis were present at an international tournament in the last few days. They competed in the Youth Contender of Montenegro and were eliminated in the Under 13 and Under 15 groups. Alexoudis got 3 points and is this week at number 100 in the girls category and 333 in the boys category. Isaakidis appears for the first time in the international evaluation tables. He scored 6 points in Podgorica and is ranked number 402 in Under 13 and number 858 in Under 15.
* The other day, the European Union of the sport issued its own evaluation table in the major category. Because this is monthly and includes for October results from the European team championship in Sweden, it is necessary to mention Greek athletes who competed in Malmö. Panagiotis Gionis lost one place and went to number 33. Yiannis Sgouropoulos remained at number 55, while Giorgos Stamatouros fell to 204, losing 25 places.
* Katerina Toliou remained at number 41. Malamatenia Papadimitriou remains at number 128, while Konstantina Paridis retreated 38 places and was at 244. Ioanna Gerasimatou does not appear in the announced table.
* Papadimitriou also made her debut in the foreign interclub championships for this year. For the Austrian league, on Saturday 07/10 he wore the jersey of LZ Linz Frosberg, which had two 3-3 draws in its first games. The young international competed in the match against SCO Ossiacher See Bodensdorf, defeated Katarina Strazar in singles and lost in doubles with teammate Daria Kissel.
