Walker: ‘European basketball isn’t low-level – Helping it get an audience in the US’

by

Basketball fans in Europe are eagerly awaiting his debut Kemba Walkera 4-time NBA All-Star who joined the Monacoin an unimaginable summer “bomb”.

The American guard spoke to “Equipe” about his goals with the French team and the reasons he chose it, while he mentioned that he wants to contribute to the increase in the popularity of European basketball in USA.

In detail what he said:

For his injuries: “When you play at this level, it’s rare to be at 100%. Many players deal with persistent injuries. Same goes for me – it’s been years since I felt 100% well. Maybe a little bit in Boston, but the last time was probably in Charlotte.”

On his inclusion in Monaco training sessions: “I was like a kid in a candy store. Both nervous and excited. I was just happy to finally be on the floor with the rest of the team. I love basketball, I want to keep playing, fighting. My journey has brought me here and I can’t wait.”

On whether he wanted to come to Monaco: “I played in the NBA for a long time and I think I left my mark on the league. I had a great career there. It doesn’t matter what league I play in. Maybe if the right situation had presented itself earlier in my career, I would have liked to stay in the NBA, but I’m happy I came to Monaco.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it, but I’d be happy to help Euroleague get a bigger audience, especially in the United States. I imagine everyone would be pleased. Just because we’re not in the NBA doesn’t mean it’s not high-level basketball.”
